Is Katango for Me?

First of all, Katango, a WORKOUT for Warriors and Lovers, is Fun, Fun, Fun oh; did I mention it was FUN too? You can say it however you want. You can get your Head, Hieart and Hips in great shape having fun or you can have fun getting in great shape. This class uses inspirational and motivational psychology sometimes in the form of poetry, for instance by Rumi, and other times, quotes and short stories. You actually do strength, balance, flexibility and coordination building exercises “as” you are doing simplified dance and oriental movement arts –based movements. Imagine “accidentally learning to Tango, Mambo, Rumba, African, R&B and Jazz dance while you are exercising. That’s right you actually develop a skill, you actually learn to dance. For those of you who can actually dance, here is a chance to add more passion, soul, and spirit to what you already do and to your life in general. Everybody who does this training learns it’s not what you do but how” you do it. You can improve really the way you move and enhance the way you dance. Everybody is a beginner. Everybody learns something new. No matter how tall or short a flower or plant is in a garden, all plants grow if the soil is good and if they get enough light and nutrients. And they all grow at their own pace without judgment. In fact if someone does not have confidence, the other people in this class will give it to you. Did I mention that because of the format of the movements, it is great cardio?

Can anybody do it? YES! Anybody can do it. Any age any level. It is like cooking on a stove. You have four burners right? On one you simmer, one you light sauté, another you stew, and the last, well if someone wants more, Cajun style baby with hot sauce. “YOU” choose how deep you want to go. The class adjusts to you. The moves adjust to you. I am a guide. I am a mirror. I am here to show you how great, how fantastic, how capable and special you are, and you are. Come in and let me prove it to you. Let me prove you to you! This is like a miracle growth class, miracle development and healing. Everybody grows and everybody heals.
This class cures frozen hip syndrome, you know, pelvic paralysis. You will learn to move as well as they did in “Dirty Dancing” Even Elvis would applaud you!

What if I have an injury? If you have an injury let me know. This class is great for knee, back, shoulder, ankle and especially heart and mind pains. In Florida people came to class still wearing their casts from injuries they incurred outside of class. We restored balance to a woman 60 yrs. old who had had her balance “nerve” cut during and inner ear operation and she was told by her doctor she may have problems even walking. She was able to do balance poses right along side of some of the better Yoga students, better than most. People have cured long standing back and knee problems within a few classes with the stretching and strengthening movements. Don’t worry. Love cures all.

What if I’m going through tough times emotionally? Then this class is perfect for you. People say that they come into class with something bothering them or wearing them down and somehow, magically, something is said to help them get through it or to see their difficulty with new eyes and an open heart. This class is designed to get people through the difficulties of life physically, psychologically emotionally and so on. People have had profound openings and breakthroughs, some to the point that in class, those tears of joy start flowing. The tears are usually met by other students saying, We know it happened to us too and then a flurry of supportive hugs from many others. Oh yes did I mention we LAUGH a lot in class? I admit it was either this, or stand up comedy. I am a clown, an absolute fool who understands what people go through and how tough it is. Love and laughter together are great cures!


With all this other stuff going on, how effective can the class be for my exercise needs? Oh just twice the workout in half the time of any other training method you will ever try. It works as well as you do. On one end it is therapy and healing. On the other end, it has worn out the “instructors and teachers” of Pilates and Yoga in areas of balance, flexibility and body control (core stabilization). The class has worn out gym owners and their instructors. It has floored competitive bodybuilders and aerobic and fitness competitors and instructors. In the same class there are people from 18 to 80, each working through their own thing at their own pace. You choose how deep you want to go and how tough you want it to be. You just tell me and right where you are, we turn up or turn down your burner. You will have a beautiful body with nice lines, proportion and symmetry.

Does it burn a lot of calories and fat? You can burn more calories in fifteen minutes of this than an hour on “any” machine or aerobics class. This includes the elliptical machine, the stair climber, especially the treadmill without the impact on the knees, although the elliptical is low impact and not too bad at all. You can even burn more calories than spinning. I was once a spinning instructor. Spinning is good. In fact their was a spinning class right before my class in Miami and some of the students of the spinning class, still wearing their Polar heart rate monitors decided they want to join in. they were in disbelief that their heart rate went up as much as spinning while doing what to them looked like slow motion exercises. Make no mistake, this class will get you toned and trimmed and fast!


You don’t even notice you’re exercising because of how fun and engaging the class is. You learn to relax, calm your soul. You learn to be and love the real "YOU"!
