The "Bad Kitty"

How it happened, I have no idea. We did this one really fun, flirty, sexy little number that had people laughing hysterically. It trims and tones the triceps, I mean it really makes them burn. It’s kind of a cabaret burlesque routine to the Joe Cocker song, “Leave Your Hat On”. We’re down on all fours doing this tricep toning exercise that is somewhat risqué’. In it, we do this timed little group hair flip you know, the stripper hair flip, a little wink and then we slap or pound the floor “all together” as an exclamation point. All around the room, women; laughing, flipping and twirling their hair, even those with short hair, playfully uninhibitedly, bright eyed and shaking their tails, meowing, from 16 to 60 plus, fully expressing their femininity, having a ball. There they were a garden of flowers, blossoming, blooming, and opening, a safe place, respected, absolutely free from judgment, free to be themselves however and whoever they are. Some open more. Some open less. But since this began, I have noticed that each time the smiles and hearts open wider. So the next time I’m teaching, midway through the class, I’m changing the music. I turn around and there they are with their arms folded. Now I know what it means when “a” woman stands and stares at you with her arms folded. As a man, the next thing out of your mouth is, “Yes Dear”, if you want to live. But a room full of women with their arms folded, “oh my”! Then I noticed it. It was a conspiracy. They all had this smirk. They were looking at each other giggling. So there I was, 6 feet tall 200 lbs., looking like a deer, okay a buck, in the headlights, knowing pretty much that I was going to have to say yes to their request, if I wanted to live. But what would that request be? And then they said it, almost in chorus. “We wanna do the “Bad Kitty”!” I said, “The what”? With arms still folded they shifted their positions and huffed as if to reload. They emphatically repeated, “We wanna do the “Bad Kitty”, you know, the Bad Kitty, the floor thingy with the hair flip and the wink. And so it was born, at least in name.

They’re cool, they’re wild, they’re sexy as black panthers;

Behold, I give you, “Felines Mischievous”
the “Baaad Kitties of Katango!

There is also a free dance part of the Katango class where people get to dance like no one is watching. After you learn and practice some Latin, funky, jazzy, sexy moves, you get a chance to try those moves or any ones you like to a song or two. The letting go is absolutely amazing, beautiful. I just play DJ and go about the business of preparing for the next phase of the class. I glance over on occasion to check in but for the most part, I want you to not feel like you are, not so much being watched, as being let go to be free to express. If you have a question, I am there. I am open. If not it is great to let you be free to enter in and explore, experience and express yourself through movement.

One person was quoted as saying, “This is absolutely the most fun you can have with your clothes on!”

Please see the class schedule for times and places. How much fun do you want your life to be? Come in and find out how much it can be!
