Ending the Pain
Back, Neck, Knees and Hips

The process necessary for curing back, neck, knee and hip pain are quite simple. I know this because it has worked, not only for hundreds, including my students, friends, strangers or anyone who is “willing” to listen. Back pain in general is terrible, just getting up, sitting down or getting in and out of the car is difficult. Headaches, often caused by tight neck muscles, are also not so fun. Sore knees and hips, especially after injuries, the difficulties walking are problems. The worst is the “anticipation” of the pain before you have to move. I as a dancer and an athlete have experienced all of the above. I was told many times I would eventually need surgery in both knees and most likely my lower back. I joke if I were a horse they would have shot me!

How do I avoid surgery?

You avoid surgery and end your pain with surgically precise stretching and strengthening provided in my classes. You could try Yoga and Pilates which I think are great. The asanas and movements are helpful in many ways. The ancient Hindus obviously including Patanjali and even the modern day Yoga masters such as K.S. Iyengar (Iyengar) and John Friend (Anusara) created extremely helpful methods for spinal and body alignment as well as training for heart and mind. Joseph Pilates was also a genius, way ahead of his time. The Rebellious Wellness Katango and Stretch and Strengthening Classes (according to many of my students who also study Yoga and Pilates) pick up where they leave off by going beyond the more general postures and moves that “indirectly" help in Yoga and Pilates, to more directly, precisely and accurately affect the muscle or joint in the way you need them to in order to isolate and eliminate your pain.

Most training and equipment just does half the job. They relieve pain momentarily. Yoga is great for flexibility but is not as potent a way to develop strength. On the other hand strength training and bodybuilding, though great for stabilizing the joints and skeletal structure, usually tightens and stabilizes muscles in the wrong positions. You may look better but not function well. Most athletic injuries are due to tight muscles and joints.

The Stretching gets you out of pain,
the Strengthening keeps you out of pain
!

But what causes the pain to begin with? How does pain happen? Why does pain happen? Usually in back pain and neck, you have a vertebrae being compacted and pressed on a disc. A disc, now compressed, presses on a nerve. A nerve being pressed on equals ouch! The same thing pretty much happens with joint pain. Either a muscle is too tight or a muscle is too weak to support the joint or both, so the joint grinds and presses on the nerve. The process is simple to relieve, cure and prevent further pain and suffering in both cases.

You simply stretch the muscles
that is causing the compacted vertebrae,
that is pressing down on the disc,
that is pressing down on the nerve to alleviate the pain.

Then you strengthen the corresponding and muscles
responsible for keeping the vertebrae from being compacted,
that keeps the vertebrae from pressing on the disc,
that keep the disc from pressing on or (pinching) the nerve that
makes you go ouch. Translation, No more ouch, much more aah!
Did I mention it’s a similar process for joint and other pains as well?

A couple of other examples of why both stretching and strengthening are absolutely necessary:

If you are flexible you may be able to reach a package on the floor but not be strong enough to pick it up.

If you are strong, you may be able to pick up that same package but because of a tight back, hips and hamstrings you may not be able to even reach the package.

The unique simple method of stretching and strengthening that you will learn in class to do “yourself” anywhere anytime to get you out of and keep you out of pain has been called by those who have tried it, nothing short of miraculous. The surprised look on their faces after they get up and the pain is gone is only surpassed by the pleasured satisfied face they make when they are actually doing the stretches. There are great simple stretching and strengthening exercises for the spine which is important because all of the energy of the body flows through it.

In China, I spent time with a Shaolin monk and other Martial Artists. When they practiced acrobatics, my God, these people took tumbles and falls twisting their bodies in ways that the body is just not meant to bend, ending up in crumbled heaps on the ground. A few days later or even the next day, there they were, as you will be quickly, back in action again. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I had to know and learn how they recovered so fast. What I saw amazed me. They showed me methods of stretching, strengthening and massage, even self-massage, that worked so well so fast that I was able to overcome “all” of my injuries and pains.
Now over 40, I am not only pain free but able to do things I couldn’t do when I was 20.
