Is the Warriors & Lovers Workout
another one of those sex classes?
NO! NO! NO!
Did I say no? I meant no!
There are dog lovers, cat lovers, like me sweet lovers (I love sweets, ice cream chocolate, let me stop) dance lovers, sport lovers and on and on.
What do you "love"?
Would you "love" to be better at it?
This is a class for those who love to love and thus love life itself.
As Rumi says, "If you've lived your life without love, count your life not lived!"
In this class you come "to work" physically, mentally and emotionally!
It is for peaceful warriors and passionate people!
These are unique training methods you will not find anywhere else inspired by
the Oriental movement arts!
There is no obscene, vulgar or inappropriate language or gestures.
Make no mistake, this, like Yoga and Pilates (which it greatly compliments), and other conscious training methods, is an intense challenge and a "serious workout", both inner and outer, for all levels who are dedicated to total "progressive"self-improvement, health and wellness. Although it is for all levels, no serious dancer, yogini/yogi, Pilates practitioner, or athlete could overlook this class or its' immediate obvious and useful benefits. And I will say this, "If you do not respect yourself or others, this is not the class for you." It is inspiring, fun, funny, playful, challenging, meditative and yes sensual, but we do "nothing" you couldn't openly practice in a park or on a beach.
I demand full respect for all who attend class and appropriate attire at all times. How about this for an oxy-moron? It is a “Discipline of Freedom”, because with freedom comes responsibility. Learning to dance and move well comes with responsibility. It does have a visceral affect on people when you move well, especially clothed, as you will be in this class. Only people who are afraid of the responsibility that comes with the skill of moving well are afraid or ashamed to do so. It is no different than learning a martial art and coming from a background of martial arts and seeing it first hand in China and Japan, I expect that those who learn this from me would treat it as a discipline and honor it as such. If we can validate and honor fighting why can’t we honor and validate respectful, purposeful, beautiful movement?
It may look like a Yoga class. It may look like a dance class. It may look like an exercise or mat class. It may look like a meditation, a tai chi, or chi gong class, but a sex class no. Sensual yes, fun oh yeah. Sex class, NO! Although you will understand a great deal more about sensuality and spirituality as you continue taking the class.
I have been a deep spiritual seeker since the death of my parents as a child and teen and more recently my younger brother to kidney failure. For over thirty years I have been listening, looking, and asking questions. I question my answers. I even question my questions. I spent long hours in temples in both China and Japan, in Churches, Mosques, Temples and Synagogues. Oh did I mention I was a stripper too! I can tell you this, “People are neither as Spiritual nor Sexual as they think they are”. And we have definitely not learned to balance the two or much else in our lives have we? So don’t be afraid to come into class and “Shake your Buddha”!
Inspiring, perspiring and meditative, this class will improve the way you move and feel. The sensual movements are hidden in the dance like “wax on, wax off” were hidden to Daniel-san in Karate kid. In fact Katango comes from the word “Kata” a Japanese word to describe a series of meditative practice movements. The other half is Tango, the passionate Latin dance. You learn meditative practice movements “alone” so you can eventually move well with a partner in a Tango-esque meditation in motion, moving mantras as a testament to your mutual respect of each other and the Rhythm of Life and Love.
In the martial arts there is sparring, where two people square off against each other. In Katango we occasionally do "mirroring". This is when two people practice the same dance move across from or "with" each other in simple synchronized steps. It is a meditative energetic giving and recieving like a great conversation. This somewhat resembles the mambo step in Dirty Dancing or a simple Tango-like movement. The key word is simple so as to focus on breathing and relaxation. It almost looks like, as some describe it Chi Gong Dancing or Pranadance!
There is NO complex CHOREOGRAPHY! It is all about the moving, the breathing and the inner stillness you achieve. Like the “Eye of the Storm” is calm in the center. Your movement is passionate, alive, fluid and sensual. “And” you are relaxed and aware as you move not fearful or worried about, “Am I doing this right?” All you have to do is breathe and count to 3!
Breathe 2, 3 to be exact.
It is meditation in motion, a moving mantra!
This is not a sex class. Sensual yes! Aware yes! Conscious Yes! Profound Yes!
Sex class no! Absolutely not!
You dress like you would in a Yoga, Pilates or Gym class. Some people have even taken the class in jeans and a T-shirt.
