A RELAXED RUSH ~ How to slow down

Today’s world has us rushing, rushing, rushing, here, there, everywhere. You know the drill. Life is so hectic for most people that the only thought on Monday is how they’re going to make it to Friday. Everyday, instead of “Good Morning Lord, we say, Good Lord it’s morning". Where does the time go? They once asked Einstein to explain the “Theory of Relativity” in laymen’s terms. He said, “Sure that’s easy. Pleasure seems fleeting, pain eternal". The two days you get off for the weekend only seem half as long as Monday… “morning”!

So you want to know what the masters know? It’s as easy as riding a bike. No really, it is. Have you ever noticed that no matter how fast you ride a bike, no matter how fast the tires are turning, the hub bolt in the middle of the spokes stays still? It doesn’t move faster just because the bike goes faster.

Let’s look at another example. When you step on the gas in your car, do you start moving faster inside the car just because the car goes faster? The answer to both is no, right?

Okay let’s apply that to you. You have a situation where you have to move faster. You need to rush to get something done. Remember, “The fastest way to a mistake is to hurry up and get there”! If you don’t have time to get it right the first time, if you make a mistake, how are you going to have time to do it again? So first relax.
Let’s play a game. Watch yourself moving quickly. The faster you need to go outside, the more you want to slow down inside to counter balance. Moving fast is fine. Rushing is fine. Just watch yourself.

There is a great story of a disciple asking his master if he could smoke while he meditated. The master replied, ‘You idiot, how ridiculous, how stupid". The disciple figured the master was mad anyway why not joke a little? He asked, “Well then, is it ok if I meditate while I smoke?" The master replied, “Absolutely! That is a brilliant idea. First good thought you’ve had." If you meditate and watch yourself you will see through anything you do. Watching yourself is a perfect meditation. Remember, "You can't take away darkness, you can only add light." Add light? Hmm, could that be where the term enlightenment came from? Naa probably not!

So if and when you need to hurry, to rush, relax. Do what you need to do as quickly as it needs to get done. Just watch yourself. Play the game. Witness yourself doing whatsoever it is. Rush, but relax.
